Introduction to Riding Off-Road (IROR)

Licensed Street Riders, DBS, and/or ADVRC Completion Card Holders Only

Only offered at Rock Glen OHV in Rockford, IL

The Introduction to Riding Off-Road class is for:

  • Motorcycle riders with an M endorsement on their driver’s license who want to learn off-road riding techniques.
  • Riders who possess a Dirtbike School Completion Card.
  • Riders who possess an Adventure Bike Rider Course Completion Card.

The course starts off with a series of cone drills to develop the necessary skills to ride the trails around the park. Riders must demonstrate correct riding techniques within a closed course before being led by the coach on trails. Class run time is approximately 5-6 hours (including time for lunch) and is performed only outdoors. The course is also great for riders who want to refresh their off-pavement riding skills.

We provide dirtbikes, helmets, and a limited amount of knee and elbow protection. The dirtbikes are 125cc engine size, are equipped with a clutch, and have a seat height of 30 or 31 inches. Kick start and manual shifting will be taught to start and operate the dirtbike. The dirtbikes are adequate for a 5-6 foot tall person with an inseam of 28 inches or higher, and weigh under 250 lbs. *Contact the school if a smaller or larger motorcycle needs to be accommodated, there may be limited equipment availability.

Riders can bring their own Dirtbike, Adventure Bike, Dual-Purpose motorcycle, and/or helmet, however it must pass a safety inspection by the RiderCoach for use in course.

Riders must bring the following to class:

-long sleeve shirt or riding jacket

-sturdy long pants (no sweats pants or stretchy pants)

-over the ankle boots (no heel taller than 1 inch)

-full finger gloves

-eye protection (sunglasses/eyeglasses are acceptable)
